Library Proxy client setup instructions

Purpose:

A proxy server has been configured to allow connection to subscription based (electronic resources) material from outside Franklin University.

These instructions explain how to configure the following browsers for common operating systems:

  • Microsoft Edge
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Google Chrome
  • Safari

Android, iOS (iPad, iPhone) and Windows Mobile are also covered by these instructions.

General Considerations:

Warning: Proxy Server use is logged.

The preferred method to configure the Proxy is with a PAC (Proxy Automatic Configuration) file. If this is not possible, the manual setup is available. The PAC file that is stored on a server tells the browser how to handle and redirect web requests. In our case only requests to library electronic resources are processed.

PAC scenario: the browser will prompt the user for a username and password only when accessing a library electronic resource from outside the Franklin University network.

username:     "your_username"
password:      "your_password"

Manual scenario: the browser will prompt the user for a username and password regardless if it’s a library electronic resource or not. The manual proxy configuration works ONLY from outside the Franklin University network.
